Extract of a letter from on board the Granada Bomb, dated at
Spithead, Sept. 18. . . [1 column]
This bold attack of the French, will cause Te Deums to be
sung all over France; but in my opinion, they have not so
much reason to boast as we have; though it certainly was
very brave in them to suffer our army (not 8000 in all) to
land on their coast, and make a week's march thro' their
country, burning and destroying all before them (returning
the usage they have in Hanover) and never to think of
attacking us till we had not near 2000 men to their 17,000,
and at such a disadvantage too as to be immediately between
fire and water.
