What has been the cause of so great a disappointment on the
coast of France in the expedition commanded by Sir John
Mordaunt, has been the subject of a long enquiry, and the
nation waits with impatience the determination of a court
martial. . . [1 column] Is it not a droll contrast to hear
of a country whose laws oblige an apprentice to serve seven
years to make a drum, and will permit vicious illiterate
hectors, taken from a herd of rakes or pampered beaus,
instantaneously to commence officers in the service of their
King and country? . . .
