London. . . May 31. . . It is said, that on the day
preceding the late battle of Auwal, Marshal Brown sent a
trumpet to the King of Prussia to desire a truce for twelve
days; to which message that Monarch returned the following
answer by word of mouth, 'I will let the Marshall know my
resolution on this head to-morrow.'
