A Scheme for a New Academy.  To T. Trueman, Esq;
Sir, you have lately treated of the subject of education, in
a manner, which I own I have no conception of; any more than
I have of Mr. Locke's book on it. . . [satirical article on
education, proposing a new boarding school near London
where] I do not intend, that one pupil of mine shall puzzle
his brains with any books beyond Erasmus and Cornelius
Nepos, or go through any more than the four common rules of
arithmetic, of offer at those crabbed businesses of
mathematics, geography or philosophy. They shall be brought
up, in short, as English gentlemen. They shall learn
dancing, to the greatest perfection; and Mr. Hoyle shall
teach them to play at cards.
