To the publishers of the Pennsylvania Gazette. The frost
seems going off; I wish you joy of its departure, for I
fancy you have been somewhat scarce of occurrences by it. I
have lately met with these epigrams, which I send you, which
seem, partly at least, owing to the frost. We have had
Lapland Odes, and there is a song on the feather'd show
descending, but these pieces look to have a new turn, and
may pass, especially in a dearth of news, for an American
curiosity; if you think so, they are at your service for the
publick, and perhaps I may send you e'er long some other
pieces of the same writer's. . . [3 epigrams: The Open
chair, To Lucinda, and The Caution, in verse, follow.]
