Maestricht, May 18. The French army partly decamped in
divisions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, taking the
road of Mechlin, Brussels, and Louvain. . . [4 lines, but]
our fortifications are actually repairing. . . we cannot
divine the reason of this, unless our new guests are
resolved not to leave us so soon as we expected. . . The
bells of the town, the Chapters, Churches and convents, have
been ransomed for 24,000 florins.
