[In Lintz, Germany] The next day Count Mazetti, Aid to camp
to Major General Bernclau, arrived in Count Khevenhuller's
Army with the news that the General had gain'd a compleat
victory over a body of French and Bavarians near Scharding.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mentrel was actually pursuing the enemy
when Major-General Bernclau sent away his Aid de Camp. M.
Bernclau had like to have been taken in this action, for in
the hurry and fury of the engagement he fell in among a
large party of Bavarian Dragoons which he mistook for
Austrian Hussars; a drummer laid hold on him, and a dragoon
was just going to discharge his carbine at him, but he run
the first thro' the body with his sword, and putting by the
carbine with one hand, he split the dragoon's skull, and so
got off.
