Paris, Jan. 12. The 5th of this month the Marquis de la
Mina, Embassador from Spain, appear'd for the first time at
court.
The same day the King took 30 Lords of his court along
with him a stag and boar hunting. . . After hunting he kept
21 of them to sup with him in his new gallery over the
closets of his little apartment. They began their diversion
by distributing the Twelfth-day cake, in which the bean fell
to the son of M. Castelmoron, Great Wolf-Huntsman of France,
and Son-in-Law of M. Hudicourt: Upon which the King ceded
his Royalty for five hours to the King of the Bean, and as
often as his Beanish Majesty drank, the King of France
huzza'd and cried as loud as the rest of the company, the
King drinks, the King drinks. As soon as the fruit was
serv'd up, and a whole regiment of dram bottles set upon the
table, the Marquis de Vitry and the Marquis de Sassenage,
who have very fine voices, and understand musick
incomparably well, sung several drinking songs, in two
parts; and when they had done every other Lord sung in his
turn. Thus merrily and facetiously does our young, but
great monarch, live with his nobles.
