His Majesty's birth-day falling according to the new stile,
on Saturday the 10th inst. the same was observed at Hanover
only by some illuminations, the grand solemnity having been
deferred till Monday following, where there was such a
public shew of wealth as that city was perhaps never before
witness of: The shops were stripped of curious and rich
stuffs and silks to shine on that day; and the King was
graciously pleased to invite, by sound of trumpet, all those
who had any imployments in the several tribunals, to partake
of the diversion of the masquerades; and directed that the
nobility should appear in short habits.
