Letters from Chester say, that when Sir Robert Grosvenor was
approaching that city, bonfires were lighted up from
Priests-Heath, Malpas, &c. to Milliners-Heath, even at Noon-
day; that the footmen and other servants which preceded the
cavalcade, vastly exceeded in number all that attended Lord
Cholmondeley the Thursday before; that most of the
Freeholders and Freeman of the county and city of Chester,
wore gilded tobacco leaves in their hats, and papers shaped
in the manner of hearts, with this motto, No Excise; that
while they passed thro' the city, which took up two hours
(the like having never before been seen in Chester) the
Musick play'd, A-Begging we will go, &c.
