Gloucester [England], Sept. 23 They write from Marlborough
in Wilts, that one day last week, the batchelors there
collected among themselves (some say) 19 L. for entertaining
all the maids in the town of 30 years of age, and upwards:
And we hear that 5 L. 10s. was given to Mr. Middleton's
Company of Comedians, for diverting these Antique Virgins
with the play of the Old Batchelor (to which none of the sex
under that age were admitted, a certain maid that wanted but
a month thereof, being to her great mortification, deny'd
entrance) and that the remainder of the money was expended
in treating the ladies, with biscuits and wine: 'Tis said,
there were present above 40 batchelors, and 120 old maids.
