Dublin. March 9. The papists in this city are of late grown
so insolent, that if some extraordinary measures are not
taken to put a stop to their career, it is to be feared,
they will greatly annoy his Majesty's loyal subjects. . . [1

their weapons when out, especially those who are lodged
abroad, when had likely to have produced very fatal effects;
for a few of them being out last night, diverting themselves
after the play, they were affronted by some fellows who it
seems belonged to St. Michael's watch; who seeing but two or
three at first, furiously fell on them, which in a minute or
two bred such a fray, and succours coming on both sides that
there has not be so desperate a fight here for many years,
the watchmen using their bills and halberts, and the
gentlemen their swords, pistols and bludgings; . . .
