Yesterday being the Anniversary of the declaration of the
independence of America, the morning was ushered in with
ringing of bells,  . . . [Description of celebrations]
In the evening the city was entertained with Mr. Mason's
Triumphal Car, in which was a portrait of Gen. Washington,
with those of Gen. Gates and Count Rochambeau, -- The car
preceeded by music, and a number of boys and girls, dressed
in white, carrying torches. . . .
