SINGULAR ANECDOTE. There is now a performer on the
violoncello in the orchestra of Drury Lane whose name is
Cervetti, better known to the inhabitants of the upper
gallery, and to many others by the nick name of Nosey. This
man was originally an Italian merchant in very good repute,
but failed at the age of sixty. Being a single man, and
always a devotee to music, he set out for England at that
time of life to endeavour to make an establishment. On his
arrival he got a birth at Drury-Lane orchestra to play the
violoncello, where he has continued ever since as capital in
his profession as he is plain and inoffensive in his
conduct. Since his arrival in England he has married, and
has grand children. He is now at the age of ninety-eight,
yet goes through his business as well as ever, being if thin
habit of body, temperate in his living, and chearful in his
disposition.
