A gentleman of immense fortune, who keeps a woman belonging
to one of the theatres, lately brought her home a piece of
winter silk, which cost thirty shillings per year. The
moment he presented it to her, she threw it on the fire, and
said, "What, do you think I am like one of your silly
virtuous women (as you call them) who wear trumpery
lutestring because their honest."
