London. . . June 6 . . . Some time before the benefit of a
celebrated Opera dancer, a noble Lord (Lord C--e) being
lucky the night before at Almack's, enclosed a 500 L. bank
note to the lady for a ticket: in consequence of which his
Lordship received the following billet next morning.
My Lord, If your note was designed as a compliment to my
stage-abilities, I think it too much; if as the prelude to a
connexion, I think it too little; either way, you see, I am
induced to return it, which I do, however, with many
compliments for your good opinions of me.
