London. . . June 5. An amiable young married Lady, justly
admired for her merit and beauty, without being possessed by
the fiend jealousy (though the present and past turpitude of
her deluded inconstant Marito might have alarmed her
feelings) accidentally went into her Lord's dressing-room to
speak to him before dinner; he being absent, in throwing her
eyes round the room, she saw a letter, sealed and directed,
on the table, instigated by a natural female impulse,
curiosity, she glanced over the address, which proving to be
a handsome actress (no less celebrated for her performance
in public, than she is in private) she broke the seal, and
reading, was convinced by the contents, that her inconstant
acted a part he ought not, without she herself was a
principal performer, the role being evidently a love part!
Hurt, and surprised, while the starting tear filled her
charmant papier, she saw a cassette, which, on opening,
contained a magnificent brilliant diamond necklace, destined
for the unworthy rival! . . . [1/4 column, lady wears
necklace to dinner, husband is shocked into submission] and
that evening, they appeared at Ranelagh arm-and-arm like new
married turtles, she with a dove-like innocence, and he will
the seeming meekness of a lamb.
