Index Entry Magician, Saunders, Hyman, to perform
Location Philadelphia

20-27 May 1771:723 (228)
Just arrived from Europe, the celebrated Hyman Saunders, who
had the honour to perform before his Excellency the Earl of
Dunmore, governor of New-York, and most of the nobility and
gentry, a variety of new astonishing and entertaining
performances, by dexterity of hand, surpassing any thing of
the kind that has hitherto been seen or attempted on this
side the Atlantic--which will be shewn in a great number of
surprising instances, and will deceive the eye of the nicest
observer, and appear in a manner supernatural.
For the better accommodation of the company, the
performance will be divided into three acts, between each of
which they will be entertained with music, and the room will
be illuminated.
  Mr. Saunders's stay in this city will be but a few weeks;
during which time he will perform every Monday, Wednesday,
and Saturday evening, at the house of Mr. Josiah Davenport,
at the Bunch of Grapes, in Third-street, --where he hopes to
merit the favour and approbation of the spectators.
The room to be opened at 7 o'clock. Price 3s.
He also performs in private to any select company, at any
place they please to appoint, he having a day's notice, by a
card directed to him, at Mr. Abraham Franks's in Water-
street.
