Mr. John Quaver, Professor and practitioner of musick and
dancing, at the sign of the German flute and bass viol in
Pearl-Street, near Fort George, gives notice, that he
teaches the art of dancing to a pipe, lately brought over by
an illustrious person; in which he hath already had the
honour of instructing too large a number of gentlemen to be
here enumerated; who are universally allow'd to out-dance
the most celebrated artists in Paris. This dance, may, with
respect to capers and bows be put upon the same footing with
the approved dances of this country: yet in one point they
differ widely, the latter being generally practis'd to throw
away money, the former to get it. It is further observable
that now and then a glass of wine from the person who
brought over the said pipe, has a wonderful virtue to
promote the agility of the scholars, and to prevent their
being weary of their exercise. Mr. Quaver asks a pistole
for entrance, and forty shillings a quarter.
