[London] May, 13. On Saturday night last some high words
arose between Mr. Mecklin and Mr. Hollam, two players
belonging to Drury Lane Theater, being disputing which
should have a black comedy wig to act in a farce that was to
be play'd that night: At last Mecklin took up a small crab-
tree stick, and made a lunge at Hallam, with such force that
he run him thro' the eye into the brain; he languished in
great torture and pain till Sunday evening, and then
expir'd. Mr. Coldham the surgeon was sent for as soon as the
accident happen'd, and used all proper means, but to no
purpose. Mecklin has since made his escape. 'Tis
observable that after he had committed this cruel action, he
went on the stage, and acted his part, but in a great
confusion.
