Philadelphia, April 17. Yesterday morning the sheriff,
accompanied by the magistrates of this city, made
proclamation at the court-house, of the cessation of
hostilities, amidst a vast concourse of people, who
expressed their satisfaction on the happy occasion by
repeated shouts. At the same time the state flag was
hoisted on Market street wharf, the bells were rang, and a
general joy diffused itself throughout the city.
