Account of the Manners and Customs of the Ingrians, a
Finnish nation under the Russian empire. . . [end of 2nd
column] On the festival of St. John, at night, the Ischortzi
assemble under this tree, and remain 'till morning,
shrieking and singing, and dancing, round a great fire;
concluding their orgies with burning a white cock, and
making the absurdest gesticulations and grimaces imaginable.
