A School for Musick, opened in Maiden-Lane, by John S.
Slaiffer, 43, where gentlemen may be instructed to play on
the violin, flute, and guitar, at one guinea per month. Mr.
Slaiffer will teach any gentleman or lady at their houses,
at the hours that may be most convenient. Few will pretend
to contradict that the charms of music will sufficiently
compensate for the trouble in the attainment of it: Music
makes as great an impression on us as the bewitching charms
of beauty; it humanizes the soul, and is in short the best
companion for the gay, the wounded lover, or the drooping
fair.
