We hear that the managers of the Theatre propose to
entertain the town this week with Dr. Goldsmith's new play,
called, She stoops to conquer, or The Mistakes of a Night:
An excellent dramatic piece, lately brought on the stage
under the patronage of Dr. Samuel Johnson, author of the
Rambler, &c. This play is intended to recover the expiring
art of writing true English comedy; the author has not been
disappointed in his attempt, as appeared from the uncommon
and well deserved success it met with, and still continues
to meet with, from the judicious and crouded audience that
constantly attend the performance of it in the Royal
Theatre.
