James Rivington, has imported a variety of articles in the
ships Dutchess of Gordon, Lady Gage, and Albany; among which
are the following, an acromatic, pocket, perspective glass,
with two eye glasses, of very uncommon magnifying powers,
made by Dolland and improved by Nairne [?]; no invention of
the optical kind was ever so much approved, or so
universally purchased; every gentleman's pocket ought to be
provided with this necessary Vademecum, which serves to
discover the identity of a ship, just visible in the offing,
and may likewise be used with the most desirable effect at
an opera, a play-house, or a public assembly;. . . corals
with silver bells, corals without bells,. . . guittars with
spare strings, fiddles with spare strings, German flutes,
common flutes, fifes of all kinds, tabors and pipes with
directions to teach the use of them; hautboy reeds, fiddle
bridges, pegs and rosin boxes; the best Giardini violin
bows, ruled musick paper for scholars, a variety of printed
musick, adapted to most sorts of instruments. . . [3/4 of a
