Last week, at Philadelphia, ended the Grand Continental
Congress, of delegates from all the British American
colonies from New Hampshire, to South Carolina,
inclusively,--they having, in a manner highly honourable to
themselves and their constituents, and serviceable to their
country, finished the important business on which they were
appointed, and met to deliberate and determine for a great
and increasing nation. . . [11 paragraphs describing
resulting resolutions in general] The business of these
committees, to be watchful against the least breach of the
general agreement. And if any person be found guilty, their
names and offence to be published, and they to be noted as
public enemies--no dealings, nor intercourse to be held with
them--nor with any colony that does not strictly conform,
and adhere to the general agreement, till all the oppressive
acts be repealed--economy, frugality, and industry to be
encouraged, every kind of gaming, horse-racing and cock
fighting, to be discouraged, with every species of
extravagance and dissipation, shews, plays and expensive
diversions; scarfs, gloves and mourning at funerals to
cease, except a black crape or ribbond for gentlemen's hatts
or arms, and black ribbond or necklace for ladies, etc.
