Extract of a letter from Philadelphia, dated June 2d, 1774.
Yesterday we had a pause in the business of this city,-- and
a solemn pause it was.  If we except the Friends, I believe
nine tenths of the citizens shut up their houses; the bells
were rang muffled all the day, and the ships in the port had
their colours half hoisted.
