Theatre. By permission of his Excellency the Governor, by
the American Company, at the Theatre in John-Street, on
Monday August 2d, will be presented, the last new comedy,
written by Doctor Goldsmith--call'd
She Stoops to Conquer: or The Mistakes of a Night. (With a
song in character.)
Tony Lumpkin, by Mr. Hallam, Hardcastle, by Mr. Goodman,
Young Marlow, by Mr. Henry, Hastings, by Mr. Byerley. Sir
Charles Marlow, by Mr. Morris, Diggory, by Mr. Hughes,
Landlord, by Mr. Woolls, Mrs. Hardcastle, by Mrs. Morris,
Miss Neville, by Miss Storer, Maid, by Miss Richardson,
Miss Hardcastle, by Miss Hallam.
To which will be added (not perform'd this season.)
The Musical Lady.
Mask, by Mr. Byerley, Old Mask, by Mr. Morris, Freeman, by
Mr. Hughes, Rosini, by Mr. Roberts. Lady Scrape, Miss
Storer, Laundress, by Miss Richardson, Sophy, (with a song
in character) by Miss Hallam.
(This play is truly comic, the humour is irresistible; and
pleases in the closet as well as in the theatre. Dr.
Goldsmith has been happy in the choice of his characters;
they are supported throughout with great propriety; and the
incidents that appear improbable are, in general, the
natural effects of the thoughtless sallies of a young
frolicksome country squire.)
