[News received from London, March 24.] By a letter from a
correspondent at Paris, dated the 18th instant, we learn,
that the Chevalier (commonly called the Pretender) and his
consort arrived at Choiseul, the 14th, and that they
intended to pass the carnival there. The Prince of Conti
was likewise expected in a few days, and the best performers
of the opera and play-houses had obtained leave to repair
thither for the amusement of those Princes; . . . [6 lines]
The same letter assures us, that his most Christian Majesty
has ordered the Comptroller General to remit the sum of
100,000 livres to the Count de Guignes, in return for the
magnificence with which he has celebrated his birth-day, and
the great influence he has gained among the English
nobility, by his numerous splendid balls and entertainments.
