[London] An artist, who was to have acted the part [of the]
"Visible Invisible", attended at a tavern in the S[trand],
where several persons were present, and a very [gen]teel
collection was made; but just as the [perfor]mance was
expected to begin, the fellow wa[s obser]ved getting out of
the window, in order [to drop] down into the street, but was
pulled back in[to the] room by one of the gentlemen, and on
being [re]proached as an imposter, he replied, he should,
[if] permitted, have acted his part extremely we[ll], for
while he was receiving the money he was "visi[ble"], and if
he had got off he should then have acted the "invisible"
part of the affair; he was then obliged to return all the
money to the persons present, and on asking pardon, and
promising never more to offend, he was so lucky as to go
away with whole bones.
