"Marcus"] . . . but in vain, in vain did the [ ]--of verse
make doggrel rhimes upon you, and the sweet voice of the
singer deplore your sad condition, in strains equally
elegiac to those of the children in the wood.*
[* refers to footnote:] This alludes to a song made upon
Marcus, which was sung to the tune of the Babes in the Wood.
