[Continuation of description of Commencement at College of
New-Jersey] The entertainment of the day, was very agreably
opened and closed with vocal music, performed in three
parts, by the students. After the anthem in the morning,
Mr. Smith pronounced a salutary Latin oration. . . [17
lines] After which, the morning exercises were concluded by
an anthem. In the afternoon, the exercise being introduced
with music, Mr. Channing pronounced an English oration upon
Oratory. . . [10 lines about orations and other oral
presentations] which, with vocal music, concluded the
exercises of the commencement. The performances of the
young gentlemen, gave universal pleasure to a crouded
audience.
