concerning wealth of the colonists] . . . As to play-houses,
cock-fighting, fox-hunting, horse-racing, and every other
expensive direction, they are all of British extract, and
brought in practice by British gentlemen, and others,
especially theatrical performances, of which there have been
none in this city these two or three years; and when
attempted about a year and a half ago, the house was pulled
down by a select number, and has laid waste ever since. . .
