New-Port, (Rhode-Island, May 12, 1761. On Wednesday last
died here the Lady, Carolina---- aged about 98 years, and is
said to be of Royal Extract: She was brought hither soon
after her birth by her guardians, who, possessing more good
nature than sound policy, suffer'd ---- their ward to run up
wild, and without the least education. She was well
featured, save a squint-eye, which she got early in her
youth, in a fright she took at superstition, --which she had
mistaken for religion. Want of education laid her open to
all ill advice, and soon form'd her character, viz. That she
had beauty without chastity, pride without riches, and
confidence without knowledge: She open'd her commerce, by
carrying to market her probity, which she barter'd away for
a piece of political arithmetick, which taught her how to
pay a shilling of debt with two-pence: Nevertheless, she
blunder'd on with some shew of modesty, till about thirty
years ago, when two of her principal guardians consummated
her debauch; the one assailed her with force, and the other
with money, and have enjoyed her alternately ever since till
the day of her death, when both solicited her embraces
together; this produced a quarrel; each one drew their
sword, and like Quixote at a puppet shew, so cut each
other's throat: But alas! Madam received a mortal wound in
the fray, and is dead. A mandamus is expected from the
chief coroner, to take an inquisition super visum corporis:
After which at her interrment, will be a sermon, from 2d
Kings, Chap. IX. and part of the 34th verse, 'Go see now
this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a King's
daughter.'
