was there, Capt. Larey, in a privateer of St. Kitts, was
agoing out, met a French privateer just under the fort, down
with his Dutch colours, hoisted English and gave her a
broad-side with his cannon, swivels and small arms
(notwithstand the fort's firing at them) whereupon the
Frenchman bore away, but Capt. Larey. gave her another
broadside, which kill'd the man at the helm and caus'd her
to ran on shore, they follower her and took out several
thousand pieces of eight, left thirteen men on board to get
her off, but the Governor sent a file of musqueteers, who
with the help of some Negro's retook her, and carried the
English-men to Trumpeters Gate where they was confin'd; the
Governor also fitted out a vessel after the privateer with
200 hands, but she returned again without her.
