Some years ago a brother of his present holiness the Pope
was a fidler in this country, and played one of the violins
at the opera-house.  On the exaltation of the pontiff, when
he went to pay his duty to him, his holiness told him that
he considered nothing as his own which he acquired by the
possession of St. Peter's ch[urch], it was only a trust from
God; however he would give him one hundred sequins a year. 
To this the brother answered, "If you have nothing, I will
have nothing."  And he now lives by playing the violin at
Bologna.
