Newport, January 2.  Wednesday last, being the anniversary
feast of St. John the Evangelist, the brethren of the
Ancient and Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons,
assembled at the court house, and from thence walk'd in
procession . . . The next evening, a ball was given by the
fraternity; at which were present, the greatest number of
gentlemen and ladies ever known at any assembly in this
place.
