A clerical Anecdote. A nobleman one day in a large company,
said to a worthy divine, who was soliciting him for a living
then vacant, "Pry-thee, doctor, think no more of it, but
learn to dance." The doctor, not at all disconcerted,
replied, with a smile, "I should be incorrigible indeed, my
Lord, not to improve under your Lordship's instructions, who
have so long made me dance attendance," "Have I so, doctor,
replied the earl, why then take the living, & my daughter
Sophy into the bargain; she will teach you to turn your toes
up."
