Boston, June 1. Last Thursday our most gracious Sovereign
King George III, entered the 35th year of his age: on which
occasion Admiral Montague's ship in this harbour was
beautifully attir'd with the colours of all nations: His
Excellency's troop of Horse Guards commanded by Col. Phips,
the Company of the Train of Artillery, commanded by Major
Paddock; a new Company of Grenadiers, commanded by Lieut.
Pierce, in a regular uniform and well disciplin'd, with the
Regiment of Militia under the command of Col. Erving, were
mustered, and perform'd their several exercises in the
Common; after which the whole Body of Horse and Foot marched
into King-street; . . . [18 more lines describing the
festivities]
The Train Company provided an elegant dinner at the Royal
Exchange Tavern in King-street; where his Majesty's and
other loyal healths were drank:--In the evening they
exhibited some elegant fire-works from the balcony of said
house in honor of the day. The whole was conducted to the
pleasure and satisfaction of all the spectators, and with
the greatest decency, joy, and decorum: We cannot omit
noticing the marches, evolutions, and firings of the fight
pieces and small arms of the Artillery Company, their
performance of the manual exercise in a soldier-like and
striking manner, all which did honor to their commanders,
themselves, and their country.
In the evening there was a most splendid ball, at Concert
Hall, at which were present Admiral Montague, and many
gentlemen and ladies of the first rank and figure.
