This day being set apart for public rejoiceings on account of the total repeal of the Stamp-Act, the day was ushered in with ringing the bell on the Rev'd Mr. Williams's church, firing of guns, and beating of drums, and in the evening a number of houses of the principal gentlemen in the town were handsomely illuminated, a large bonfire made, and such other expressions of joy were shown as became a free and loyal people. |
