[London.] June 12. Thursday e[ven]ing the anniversary of
his Majesty's birth day, when he enter'd the 24th year of
his age, the morning was ushered in by the ringing of bells,
and firing the guns on board the ships in the river; at noon
the King and the royal family received the congratulations
of the nobility, foreign ministers, &c. There never was a
more brilliant court on any occasion. Such an amazing
number of jewels which the ladies wore, as nosegays in their
bosoms, &c. were scarce ever collected at one time. Most of
their cloaths were gold and silver brocades. The guns in
the Park and at the Tower were discharged, and in the
evening several curious fireworks were played off on Tower
Hill, St. James's Square, Leicester Fields, Kew and
Richmond, with illuminations in houses, and a grand ball at
St. James's.
