Vienna, June 18. The attack of the intrenchments near
Landshot began at two in the morning of the 23d The ground
firing lasted until 8 o'clock, and then slacked, but still
continued till noon. General Fouquet's corps was not indeed
very numerous, but it consisted of the flower of the
Prussian troops; and it must be confessed, that being
harassed in on every side, and having no other recourse but
their valour, they defended themselves with such obstinacy
as made this the bloodiest action that has happened in the
course of the war. They disputed the ground foot by foot,
and almost always without disordering their ranks About
half of them have been cut off. We don't suppose above a
thousand of them escaped; the rest were made prisoners. The
following is a list of them:
One general of infantry, 2 major generals, 3 colonels, 2
lieut. colonels, 13 majors, 46 captains, 47 lieutenants, 83
sub lieutenants, 17 ensigns, 7331 soldiers, 246 listed [
]; in all 7800 men. Artillery, &c. taken, 49 pieces of
cannon, 9 howitzers, 24 ammunition waggons, 34 colours, 2
standards, 1 pair of silver kettle drums.
