Boston, Jan 4.  At half past one o'clock this day arrived an
express from Governor Trumbull, of Connecticut, to the
council of this state, with the following most agreeable and
important intelligence; viz.
  Head-quarters, Peck's Kill, Dec. 30, 1776.
By Colonel Chester, this morning arrived from his Excellency
General Washington, who was at Newtown, I have the pleasure
to acquaint you, that early on the morning of Thursday last,
his Excellency in person, at the head of about three
thousand of our troops crossed the Delaware, attacked the
enemy, consisting of about 1600 men, and after a brisk
action of thirty five minutes, entirely routed them, taking
one Colonel . . . [4 lines] twenty drummers, nine musicians.
. . [7 lines] twelve drums (brass barrels) a number of
trumpets, clarionets, &c. six waggons with swords, caps, &c.
