Boston.  At a council held at the Council Chamber in Boston,
on Thursday Mar [torn] 1737.
  The sorrowful news of the death of our most gracious Queen
Caroline, being confirmed (agreeable to the affidavits of
Alexander Sears & John Webster, jun. taken on oath before
this board on Tuesday the twenty eighth of February last )
by advices from divers parts.
  Voted, that the proper funeral solemnities be observed on
Thursday the twenty third instant, the governour and Council
then to appear in mourning; and that the Rev. Mr. Samuel
Mather (to whom it belongs in course, to preach the publick
lecture in Boston) be desired to prepare a sermon suitable
to this occasion; and that all the bells of the churches in
Boston be toll'd from eight to eleven a clock in the
morning, and to intermit during the lecture, and to be
toll'd from two after lecture to five o'clock in the
afternoon, and that his excellency be desired to give orders
for the discharge of the ordinance at his Majesty's Castle
William in funeral manner. . .  [9 lines]
