Cambridge, [Mass.] September 28. This day at 10 o'clock
a.m. the Hon. and Reverend Overseers, with the Fellows of
Harvard College, met in the library, according to the
ancient custom for near these hundred years, to install the
new elected president [Holyoke] into his office. . . [13
lines] The Rev. Mr. Prince made another prayer; and the
solemnity concluded with singing part of the 78th Psalm.
After this the Overseers and Fellows returned to the
library, and then with the Rev. Ministers and other
gentlemen of a liberal education, & dined in the hall
together. In the evening the windows of the three colleges
were finely illuminated, while the chambers rang with
melodious joy and singing.
