Madrid, Jan. 28. N.S. On the day preceding the grand feast,
the Duke de Sora Buoncoinpagne, Ambassador to the King of
the two Sicilies, gave to the grandees, ministers of state,
and those of the foreign powers, &c. on occasion of the King
his master's birth-day, Don Joseph Patinho declared to
several foreign ministers, that tho' their sovereigns had
not yet acknowledged Don Carlos as King of the two Sicilies,
the invitation made them by the Duke de Sora, as foreign
ministers to the feast, was not to be look'd upon as a tacit
recognition of the dignity of his Sicilian Majesty; and that
their Catholick Majesties would regard it as a pleasure done
them, if they should be present at that feast. All the
foreign ministers residing here with publick characters,
have been present thereat, except the ambassador of Venice,
who it is said, had some difference with the Duke de Sora.
There was at the feast 76 ladies, and above 300 lords. The
concert was composed of 50 instruments and 4 voices. The
Duke's palace was illuminated on all its fronts, from seven
in the evening till day-break.
