London, May 23. [Extract of a letter from Gibraltar.]
On Tuesday the 9th of April, a ship came in with the long
wished for agreeable news of her Royal Highness the Princess
Royal's marriage with the Prince of Orange being
consummated; on which occasion the men of war in the bay,
fired that day at noon; and Lieutenant General Sabine, our
Governor, fixed on Thursday the 11th, when he gave an
elegant entertainment at dinner. . . [9 lines]
That night the officers of the train play'd off all sorts
of fireworks, and the whole town was illuminated; but none
comparable to that of Brigadier General Columbine, who it
seems is his Highness's countryman, whose family's zeal for
the illustrious House of Nassau is well known. . . He did
intend, as I hear, to have given a ball, but it falling out
in Passion week, that prevented it, tho' he entertained,
that night, all the came to see him;. . .
