New-York, January 30. On Saturday the 20th of this instant
January, being the anniversary of the birth-day of his Royal
Highness Frederick Prince of Wales, his Excellency the
honourable Willliam Cosby, Esq; our most worthy governour
was attended at his house in Fort-George, by the gentlemen
of his Majesty's council, as many of the members of the Hon.
House of Representatives as were in town, with their speaker.
. . [8 lines] that ceremony being over, the company was
admitted to the honour of waiting upon his Excellency's
lady, the Hon. Mrs. Cosby, and daughters, in the with
drawing room: In the evening the gentlemen and ladies of
this city were present at a most splendid entertainment in
the Council Chamber in the fort, where every thing appeared
in lustre & magnificence, justly expressive of the grandeur
and delicacy of that genius which presided: The night
concluded with a ball, which lasted as long as the regard
which his Excellency's family always pays to the succeeding
day, admitted. The company was very numerous and suitable
to so joyful an occasion, and this is the first time that
ever the birth day of his Royal Highness the Prince of
Wales, had been celebrated here in a publick and
distinguishing manner by any of our governours.
