Index Entry | Bells, in Philadelphia, rung muffled for Boston Port Bill |
Location | Philadelphia |
Citation | MS-B.774.049 16 Jun 1774:24 (4/176) Extract of a letter from Philadelphia, dated June 2, 1774. Yesterday we had a pause in the business of this city [in honour of the Boston Port-bill], and a solemn pause indeed it was; if we except the Friends, I believe nine tenths of the citizens shut up their houses. The bells were rang muffled all the day, and the ships in the port had their colours half hoisted. |
