Index Entry | Bells, in Newburyport, rung for anniversary of Boston massacre |
Location | Newburyport |
Citation | MS-B.773.011 8 Apr 1773:32 (3/114) Extract of a letter from Newbury-Port, March 15. On the evening of the 5th instant, the several bells here were tolled from 7 o'clock to nine, and two drums muffled were beat through the streets, and a number of young persons followed in procession, with as much solemnity as if they had been attending a funeral. I imagine considerable improvements will be made another year on this procedure. |
